MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS
Candy Clark, Vocal Instructor
Candy believes that as long as you have a desire to learn, a normal speaking voice, and the ability to carry a tune, you can learn to sing. She encourages her students to explore the styles of music they enjoy most, whether it's opera, gospel, musical theater, rock, or more. Candy loves sharing her passion for music with students of all ages and ability levels. She holds a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Michigan State University.
Evan Lewis, Percussion Instructor
Evan has been with Miller Music Studio since 2016 and has been a mainstay in the Holt community for more than 25 years as the Holt Junior High School band director. He attended Central Michigan University, where he majored in music education and minored in percussion performance. Throughout his career, he has performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the West Shore Symphony in Muskegon, and the Midland Symphony.
Evan enjoys helping students expand their musical abilities beyond the classroom and finds great satisfaction in helping them discover something new about both music and themselves.
Lisa Summers, Piano Instructor
Michigan native Lisa Summers has been teaching piano in the Greater Lansing area for the past five years. Once a student at Miller Music Studio herself, Lisa has gone on to pursue a professional career in music. She is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate in Piano Performance at Michigan State University, studying under Panayis Lyras. She is also pursuing a Master's degree in Piano Pedagogy.
Lisa regularly performs in collaborative recitals and participated in the Encore Music Festival with Michigan State University's College of Music in Todi, Italy, during the summers of 2016 and 2017. She has also participated for three consecutive years in MSU's Celebrating the Spectrum Festival, working alongside advanced pianists with ASD. In addition, Lisa has been invited to present posters and lectures at collegiate and national music conferences, including the MTNA Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium and the MTNA National Conference.
Steven Pinckney, Guitar Instructor
Steve believes that if you're not having fun making music, you're not doing it right.
He teaches guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica at Miller Music Studio and has performed professionally for more than 35 years. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with several renowned musicians, including Chuck Berry and The Crystals.
Steve has taught students of all ability levels, from ages 4 to 80, by keeping lessons engaging and enjoyable.
